b'As a student, Gursevak had two teachers who were visible racial minorities. As a member of the Sikh Community, he had few role models who chose to wear a turban. Now, he experiences teachable moments with his students as they raise issues bringing to light a variety of challenging diversity, equity and inclusion topics. As a role model to his students, Gursevak created a TUSC presentation about the significance of hair in his culture. He has worked diligently to create a culture of inclusivity. He admits that change takes time, but if he makes mistakes, he is always open to new learning. He recalls that praise was not generously given when he was growing up. To demonstrate the change he advocates, he states that he is so proud to teach, complimenting Mide about her leadership skills. As she continues her educational journey, Mide plans to join friends involved in leadership opportunities.
