Division 1 Champs
Glenlawn Collegiate Institute’s girls’ hockey team
made school history by winning its first-ever Division 1
championship in March 2026. After years of perseverance
and multiple finals appearances, the Lions’ victory
reflected resilience, teamwork, and strong community
support. The milestone win marked a proud moment for
the Glenlawn community and highlighted the continued
growth of girls’ hockey across Winnipeg.
With 41 schools and more than 17,600 students, there’s a lot to celebrate in the Louis Riel School Division
(LRSD). Here are just a few of the noteworthy highlights and achievements from the 2025-2026 school year:

“Name That Plow” Contest
Students in Mme Tugby’s Late Immersion class at École Van
Belleghem earned top honours in the City of Winnipeg’s inaugural
“Name That Plow” contest through creativity, collaboration,
and community engagement. Working together to brainstorm
and refine ideas, the class’s winning entry “Brrrrr-ger Kings” was
selected through a public vote and is now the official name of the
City’s sidewalk and pathway plow fleet.
