This approach directly reflects Strategic Action 3.2: Student Voice 
and Agency, reinforcing the division’s commitment to placing 
students at the centre of their own learning and recognizing their 
capacity to lead.
It also fostered a shared sense of purpose across the division. 
Students, staff and community partners worked alongside one another, 
creating opportunities to learn together and from one another.
“It didn’t actually matter what you brought,” said Veronique 
Reynolds. “It was about being in community with others, sharing 
learning and the excitement of what it means to learn.”
That collective energy was reflected in the gathering’s most 
visible moments, including student pledges focused on caring 
for the land, reducing waste and supporting their communities. 
The commitments highlighted both personal responsibility and 
a broader understanding of interconnectedness, with students 
pledging actions such as reducing litter, protecting natural spaces, 
composting and giving back to their communities.
For many involved, the experience was deeply meaningful.
“The right word would be humbled,” said Oliver. “Humbled by the 
depth of care, generosity and motivation of our students.”
As the year concluded, Learning with the Land served not only 
as a celebration, but as a marker of ongoing work. The initiative 
demonstrated how sustainability can be meaningfully integrated 
into everyday learning, with students playing an active role in 
shaping both their understanding and their actions.
Within LRSD, that work continues to grow, rooted in classrooms, 
carried forward by students and strengthened through a shared 
commitment to learning with the land.
