17 Mathematicians Rise to the Challenge Students from Glenlawn Collegiate Institute earned an impressive range of awards at the 2025 Canada Lynx Mathematical Competition, Manitoba division, showcasing strong achievement across multiple grade levels. With top honours, including gold, silver, and bronze awards, Glenlawn students demonstrated dedication, growth, and a deep commitment to mathematical learning. Students Strike a National Chord Two guitar ensembles earned national recognition as finalists in the CBC Canadian Music Class Challenge, showcasing student talent and creative learning in action. Grade 7 students from École George-McDowell and Grade 10 students from Collège Jeanne- Sauvé were selected among the Top 10 in the Studio Production category, highlighting the impact of dedicated arts education, student collaboration, and innovative teaching practices across LRSD schools. WPC Staff Go Viral with Creative Parody A creative parody video created during spirit week by Windsor Park Collegiate staff inspired by Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl performance captured widespread attention, reaching over one million views on Instagram. The video highlights the energy, creativity, and strong sense of community within the school. 2025 Susan Langley Earth Steward Teaching Award Runner-Up Suzanne Simpson, Teacher-Librarian at École Varennes and École Provencher, brings climate action and outdoor learning to life through SDG-focused lessons that combine storytelling, discussion, and hands- on activities. A Master Gardener, Master Composter, and Forest School Practitioner, Suzanne shares her expertise with students and staff while leading Environment Clubs and supporting community gardens. In recognition of her work, she was named a runner-up for the 2025 Susan Langley Earth Steward Teaching Award, reflecting her deep commitment to environmental stewardship and education. Jules Lavallee Memorial Bursary Rhianna Manningway-Crate and Jynx Houle, graduating students from Glenlawn and Windsor Park Collegiates, both received the Jules Lavallee Memorial Bursary at the 2026 Graduation Powwow. This award recognizes a graduating Indigenous student who has developed/used/ shared their gifts to fulfil goals and aspirations in relation to themselves, their families, and communities. Lights, Camera, Climate Action Students across the division demonstrated the power of voice and climate action in the Climate Change Connection Youth Video Challenge. In the province-wide Grade 5–8 category, LRSD students earned the top three honours, with École St. Germain placing first, followed by students from Glenwood School and École Varennes. This outstanding achievement reflects the division’s strong commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). LRATC Alumni Shine on Olympic Curling Broadcast in Italy LRSD alumni Graham Parsons, Johnathan Schneider, Zoe Krzuk, and Jamie Wiebe brought their hurry-hard mentality to the international stage this year, contributing to Olympic curling broadcasts at the Milan–Cortina 2026 Winter Games. Graduates of the Media and Broadcasting program at the Louis Riel Arts & Technology Centre, the alumni worked across key production roles, showcasing the strength of LRSD’s career-focused education and the meaningful pathways it creates for students in arts and technology fields.
